Bill, I haven’t seen any price increases lately, including this month’s. Did you have a promotion that went off? Just call them and ask them to renew it.
Check to see if AT&T will be putting fiber in your area anytime soon before you decide to give TWC the boot. If you stay, eliminate all the stuff you absolutely don’t need. We have been Netflixing way more than we used to and find the basic TV from our provider to be more than adequate when coupled with Netflix. If you are a sports nut then I’m sure there are solutions there, too, but that is not my world. If AT&T IS putting fiber in your area, JUMP! It is great! I had mine put in last week and I am paying less than I was before with their lousy internet, even though we were pleased with the TV and phone service. I am getting anywhere between 500 Mbps and 900 Mbps and it’s symmetrical, which means it’s the same service up as down (which varies a bit but never more than 2 to 1) and most of the time the upload is faster than the download! Figuring that I used to get 1.5 Mbps upload from ATT, that is in excess of ONE HUNDRED TIMES what I used to PAY MORE FOR with regular AT&T Uverse. Even the download is more than TWENTY TIMES what I had before. I am the second install they had in my area and they had to come out a few times to get it all right, but they bent over backwards to make sure I was happy. And I am happy! I highly recommend it. I still have my 200/20 Mbps TWC, but it is now secondary on my dual-WAN (2 internet connections) router, where it used to be the primary. Those who already have AT&T have it the easiest, because your other services don’t need to change. Pretty much the only change is the line to the modem. Instead of the old two-pair copper that came all the way from the central office, it is now a fiberglass line all the way to a small box next to the modem and then it is gigabit ethernet the last few feet to the modem. Very sweet. I highly recommend all the techs I have seen in the past few days. They are very friendly, professional and worked really hard to make sure everything was right. Jonathan P.S. AT&T is offering the GigaFiber for $80, which is pretty much a steal, but I’m sure it will go up eventually. C’mon TWC, time to plan your catch-up play! P.P.S. I WISH I only paid AT&T only $2000 a year. With 6 people on our mobile account, two land lines, and a fairly basic TV package (and GIGAPOWER!) on Uverse, I pay over $7000 a year! (Time for a couple college graduates to get their OWN accounts, I guess!) > On Dec 14, 2016, at 10:00 PM, Bill Rising <[email protected]> wrote: > > I just got my latest TWC/Spectrum bill, and lo and behold, it was 30% higher > than the month before, and included a sports programming fee, an extra DVR > service charge, an extra charge for a settop box that my wife was told was > free [1] when she got it. > > Anyways, all in all, if I pay this highway robbery [2], I'll end up paying > nearly $2,000/year for internet and TV [3]. > > I started my usual routine of planning the annual call to ask why loyal > customers get screwed while new customers get cheap prices, only to find out > that Spectrum has eliminated all packages close to what I have, and going for > separate services would be $5 less per month. > > Thus, I figure I need to threaten to leave for the Uverse/DirectTV world.
