so i wrote "sudo nano /etc/sysctl.conf" in the terminal and added "
net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6=1" then saved and rebooted the beaglebone. 
Now i have no ipv6 and no ipv4 (i also tried adding 
net.ipv4.conf.all.disable_ipv4=0 and net.ipv4.conf.all.enable_ipv4=1 but no 
change):
