Once the phone is unlocked itunes will give you what you require.

Hi,
Many thanks. What do you mean when you say “Power cycle”? how to
Power cycle the phone through iTunes, for example? I am blind, so
connected it to iTunes would need the passcode, that I cannot
insert without sound. Did they really know about this before
releasing the OS? Shenanigans…

João

Talked to Apple and they stated to try this.
1. Power cycle the phone.
2. Power cycle the phone in charging adapter.
3. Power cycle the phone through iTunes.
Now any or all of them should work, and they knew about it before
release.

Hi,
Sounds like there'll need to be some console log reports so that
things can be figured out. If VO speech is stopping due to some
sort of conflict, then they'll need to figure out what processes
are conflicting that renders VO speech inoperable. If it is more
widespread than just to do with the phone app, then workarounds
aren't the fix, it will need to be a bug fix for sure.

I only have 13.1.2 on an older phone, this one, a 7+. I finally
had the loss of sound bug yesterday, and it wasn’t from a phone
call. I was reading an article in an RSS news reader. I open
Safari, using the open in Safari option in my news reader, and
things went from being sort of draggy and slow in the news reader
to absolute silence in Safari. So this is either two bugs, or
it’s not related just calls, and certainly not related to the
screen going to sleep in my case.

Hi,
I've only had this happen once. A full DFU is not required at
all, and if anyone claims that it is necessary, they're wrong. A
simple restart will bring things back to normal. If you haptic
feedback on, then it is easier than with it off. While haptic
feedback is on, press the down volume and the side button in for
a few seconds until you feel the haptic feedback. This has
brought up the shutdown dialog. Be careful here, as you could
accidentally call emergency services if you have that feature
enabled. What you do is to flick left until the haptic feedback
feels like you're hitting the left wall. When you're at this
point, you are on the "Power Down" button, so double-tap and your
iPhone will turn itself off. Wait about a minute between
double-tapping to shutdown, and holding the side button to turn
the iPhone back on. Once it restarts fully, VO will be working
normally again.
If VO is off, then flicking left will not result in the haptic
feedback hitting the left wall. So, you'd then need to press the
side button three times to turn VO on, then follow the steps
above to turn the iPhone off and back on. I haven't totally
figured out what the trigger is that causes this to happen, but I
believe it has something to do with the screen going to sleep
while on the call. If it's a shorter call where the screen does
not put itself to sleep, then this does not usually happen. At
least in my situation, that's been the case.

requested it. Again, no sound!
How to report such a problem to Apple? Sometimes I feel like at
the call centre thy are trying more to say that it is normal
than trying to understand the issue. Also, they will ask for a
full restore with DFU mode… I can see this happening…

Your not going crazy mine has done it a few times also. Along
with screens getting very touchy and jumping all over the screen.

Hi all,
With iOS 13.1.2 running in an iPhone 8 I saw myself without
sound already twice. The haptic feedback was working but no sound
at all.
After plugging it to my Mac and press more-or-less randomly at
the screen, it was vibrating, indicating that the passcode was wrong.
From other phone I called to it and, again, more-or-less randomly
I managed to answer the call and realized that it was working.
Right after the sound returned to the whole system.
Today a similar situation happened:
I was listening a podcast while a phone call arrived at other
synchronized iPhone. I answered it at the iPhone 8. After hanging
up the sound was gone. I call from another phone to the iPhone 8.
Although I couldn’t answer the call, after some seconds the
sound returned, and the podcast restarted at the point that it
was before I got the original phone call to the other
synchronised iPhone.
Anyone with a similar experience?
Regards,
João
