Hi Mats,

First off, from the replies you've received, it sounds like I might be
alone here, but I agree entirely with you. You may have been a lttle hard
on David, but otherwise you are right. I believe that if the polygons are
not where you think they belong, you must find out what went wrong before
you start dragging anything around.

We need to go back to David's original post:

"I just recieved an ArcInfo (or View e00) file containing numerous
polygons of varing area sizes. The converter I used works fine
except for translating the field info, no problem there. The file
imported as Non Earth Meters. I reprojected at Lat/Long NAD 27 and
everything's fine with one exception. The grouping of the polygons
are 5000 miles off to the east."

If the polygons don't show up in the "correct" place, it seems to me that
one must look at the procedures used.

First off, WHAT converter works fine? And how did he know that? And if it
worked so fine, why does he think the polygons are in the wrong place? And
what parameters were used to convert to lat/lon?

What coordinate system/projection was the original data in? Did it import
to MapInfo with the same/proper coordinates? If so, then why did the
reprojection to lat/lon not go correctly?

Take care,
Mark
