Opening in Excel is fine to make sure the data is what you expect it to be,
however, a *.csv file is simply a 'comma-separated-values file' ( A.K.A. an
ASCII text file) which, after renaming the extension to *.txt, can be opened
directly in MI as a text format file.

csv files into Excel and then open the resulting Excel file in MI.
