Honestly, I've seen people kicked off the list for a lot less than this
advocacy of imperial occupation. Where does this pass for Marxism these days?

I find it extraordinary that commentators insist that the Taliban poses
no risk to anyone outside of Afghanistan. First this is not a war
against the Pasthun. Karzai and NATO are going to extraordinary lengths
to make concessions to Pashtuns to bring them into the government--you
would think that some of these concessions would bother Marxists who
have obviously lost any connection to Enlightenment and secular values.
This is a war against ISI assets and rogue ISI groups. They have carried
out several terrorist actions in South Asia--are people here really so
parochial and racist not to know that? The Bush doctrine is not needed
to justify a war against them. There is nothing preventative or even
pre-emptive about this war. NATO is setting a trap so that they will now
all come out of hiding to fight the new troop deployments, and they'll
get their comeuppance. The idea that the NATO deployment will force the
terrorists into hiding in Pakistan is the opposite of the truth. These
terrorists are not cowards. The other option is to have the Indian
military fight the war against the ISI backed Taliban territorial grabs,
and the obvious consequences of that are not tolerable.  There is also a
need for these ISI backed Taliban in Afghanistan to be humiliated so
that the reputation of this kind of perversely distorted Islamic
ideology is severely degraded before these fundamentalists make Pakistan
ungovernable.
