The problem with this narrative is that Trotsky, like Lenin and the other party
leaders, failed to support the "Democratic Centralists" and the "Workers
Opposition" movements inside the party to fight against the centralism of the
party, it's merger with the state, and the privileges that many of the
Bolshevik leaders and their families assumed as soon as they had the
opportunity. Trotsky, Lenin, and the bulk of the Bolshevik leadership also
supported the violent suppression of the Kronstadt rebellion, which demanded
the following reforms.

- Free elections to the Soviets.
- Freedom of speech and press for workers and peasants.
- An end to Bolshevik domination of the Soviets.
- Liberation of political prisoners.

Trotsky. as the political leader of the armed forces, oversaw the suppression
of Kronstadt. Like the Cheka agents on the factory floors, the natural leaders
of the working class were snuffed out by the very people who greatly needed
them. Trotsky was not enough of a prophet to see that. Emma Goldman was.
