I would add that the Russian and subsequent social revolutions which expropriated their propertied classes still IMO represented an historical advance in that they raised the economic, social, and cultural level of the masses. But at a great cost. If they could have foreseen the effect of their crash industrialization and collectivization programs, they might have proceeded more slowly. That too would have required an accommodation to US imperialism and the global capitalist economy - at an earlier stage.
