Good point, Tony. I would say the movement's enemies pretty much equate the symbols with "Jew hatred", "Jewish self-hatred" and "terrorism", while the flags, chants, and other symbols of the Palestinian resistance only mean different things to those marching abroad in solidarity with it. Some of the marchers unequivocally support Hamas and its ideology, others say the organization had no choice but to act in desperation to forestall the Palestine issue being buried by the extension of the Abraham accords, and others are at pains to distinguish between their support of the Palestinian people and their political opposition to Hamas. All three tendencies, however, appear to be united around the right of armed self-defence by the Palestinians and opposition to a one state solution. Unfortunately, since the Palestinians themselves are politically divided, there is no longer a single organization "whose program could say what the movement wants" as there once was before the PLO accepted the Oslo accords and renounced armed struggle, was challenged by the rise of Hamas, and riven by internal factions. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
