Hi again, I realized my previous answer has been too quick and contained some mistakes.
1. The Generator at bus nr. 9 in case 57 is not a SVC/synchronous condenser, it has a Pmax = 100MW, Pg =0 is just the initial operation point. To model SVC/SyncCond we would set both PMAX and PMIN to zero. 2. Please check what is the default MATPOWER options.
