Matjaz Rihtar commented on MH-8471:
-----------------------------------

I completely agree that you don't have to use the scripts to install the 3rd
party tools, especially if you think that they could break the integrity of
your system. Below I am providing a list of all sources for
libraries/dependencies which are used to build our version of tools so you can
install or compile them by yourself:

1. base libs:
   1.1 jam-2.5.zip
   1.2 scons-2.0.1.tar.gz
   1.3 yasm-1.1.0.tar.gz
   1.4 zlib-1.2.5.tar.gz
   1.5 jpegsrc.v8b.tar.gz
   1.6 libpng-1.2.44.tar.gz
   1.7 tiff-3.9.4.tar.gz
2. ffmpeg libs:
   2.1 mp4v2-trunk-r355.tar.bz2
   2.2 SDL-1.2.14.tar.gz
   2.3 libogg-1.1.4.tar.gz
   2.4 libvorbis-1.3.1.tar.gz
   2.5 lame-3.98.4.tar.gz
   2.6 x264-snapshot-20110811-2245-stable.tar.bz2
   2.7 xvidcore-1.2.2.tar.gz
   2.8 faac-1.28.tar.gz
   2.9 libtheora-1.1.1.tar.bz2
   2.10 libvpx-v0.9.7.tar.bz2
3. ffmpeg-0.8.2.tar.gz
4. MediaInfo_CLI_0.7.35_GNU_FromSource.tar.bz2
5. ocropus libs:
   5.1 openfst-1.2.3.tar.gz
   5.2 giflib-4.1.6.tar.gz
   5.3 SDL_gfx-2.0.22.tar.gz
   5.4 SDL_image-1.2.10.tar.gz
   5.5 iulib-0.4.tgz
   5.6 leptonlib-1.66.tar.gz
6. tesseract-3.00.tar.gz + eng.traineddata.gz
7. (ocropus-0.4.tar.gz - not used currently, can be left out)
8. qt_sbtl_embedder-0.4.tar.gz - get the source from Matterhorn repository

Sources are for all libraries/dependencies are available on public sites except
for qt_sbtl_embedder, which is available in Matterhorn repository. You could
also install other (newer) versions of libraries/dependencies or even tools
like ffmpeg or tesseract (as some of our developers do) and try running
Matterhorn with them. If you do decide to compile them yourself, there might be
a bit of tweaking necessary for a successful compilation.

There was a lot of talk about having the repository of pre-built versions of
tools for our use but were all rejected because of various copyright problems.

The Ubuntu itself is quite popular among our developers so I guess we'll have
to live with it.
