Now I'm speaking from memory now, but it doesn't matter whether Epiphan sends a 
signal or not --Gstreamer knows the characteristics of the stream in real-time, 
and detects the size of it has changed. Again, as I said, I may be wrong. 

Anyway, I'm wondering how a software solution would decrease the overall 
quality of the recordings more than a hardware solution would. As far as I can 
see, a scaler would force a certain resolution in the videos, wouldn't it? Then 
we can accomplish the same thing by software and then what the difference would 
be?
