Research Lab Workshop

The Underrepresented Researchers of Color would like for you to join for
our presentation on "How to join a research lab". Meet Schekman lab
researcher, Renan Aparicio and the Underrepresented Researchers of Color
program to learn how to overcome challenges and get involved in labs at UC
Berkeley. *Join us Friday, December 9, 2016 in room 9 Durant Hall between
4-5:30! *

Renan's research at the Schekman Lab, focuses on elucidating the molecular
mechanisms of neurodegeneration-associated proteins in cells. He uses
biochemical assays to monitor the transport of mutated proteins linked to
dementia. Renan's goal is to map out the altered transport pathways these
dementia-linked proteins take in an attempt to provide a platform for drug
therapy.

Eye to Eye UCB Mentoring Program

Eye to Eye's national mentoring program pairs college and high school
students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD with similarly-labeled
middle school students.

Each week, Mentors work with their younger counterparts on art projects
designed to help the younger students embrace their learning differences
and develop social-emotional skills that promote their academic and
personal success.

for new volunteers! This is a great opportunity to get involved and serve
as an advocate to the homeless and underserved in our community. This is
also a clinical volunteer opportunity, but being pre-dental is not
necessary to apply - all training will be provided, so being dedicated,
passionate, and willing to learn is much more important! If you are
interested in applying, please take a look at our application page

CHORI Summer Internship Program
Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI), the research branch
of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, isseeking applications from
qualified - motivated college students still in their undergraduate
program, to participate in our 2017 CHORI Summer Student Research Program
for Under Represented Undergraduate Students.

The CHORI Summer Research Program is designed to provide an unsurpassed
opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the world of basic and/or
clinical research for three months during the summer. The program pairs
students with one or two CHORI principal investigators who serve as
mentors, guiding the students through the design and testing of their own
hypotheses and methodology development. At the end of the summer, students
present their research to their peers just as any professional researcher
would do.

More information on the program can be found here

Join a team of physicians and engineers developing clinical decision
support tools to reduce preventable deaths caused by sepsis and patient
discharge errors. This NSF funded project involves predictive analysis of
EHR (electronic health record) data through machine learning. Students
interested in a long-term, self-directed research opportunity in
preparation for medical or graduate school, or for an undergraduate thesis,
are encouraged to apply. We also have opportunities for recent graduates,
such as those taking a gap year prior to graduate or medical school.

We have clinical, regulatory, statistical algorithm development,
programming, and peer-review manuscript writing opportunities available.
Students must be able to make a substantial commitment to this position
during the spring semester and work full-time on this project throughout
the summer. Recent graduates must be able to work full time for a minimum
