Meet Schekman lab researcher, Renan Aparicio and the Underrepresented Researchers of Color program to learn how to overcome challenges and get involved in labs at UC Berkeley. *Join us Friday, December 9, 2016 in room 9 Durant Hall between 4-5:30! * Renan's research at the Schekman Lab, focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration-associated proteins in cells. He uses biochemical assays to monitor the transport of mutated proteins linked to dementia. Renan's goal is to map out the altered transport pathways these dementia-linked proteins take in an attempt to provide a platform for drug therapy. Contact us at: [email protected]. Eye to Eye UCB Mentoring Program Eye to Eye's national mentoring program pairs college and high school students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD with similarly-labeled middle school students. Each week, Mentors work with their younger counterparts on art projects designed to help the younger students embrace their learning differences and develop social-emotional skills that promote their academic and personal success. If you are interested in becoming a Mentor, sign up at: https://www.tfaforms.com/431921 <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001A_wbuplsRJkyuHpf7GMJdIWj-At6R12peWvPnsZlfQW9P2vHw3_CdGBgU41tLSSIOaoKDs7mJarVDryQYNlycnkNrO8stAp_-tH84iNzx-KlASugaa7RbzTG3ciC0SP3c-o4qufk3r1DAH88BHRs5rt9ML3rwYE27onqrgpH92TLGUJeNjnBKA==&c=xCJyaalacNgH600ibCvPe1eMHMEUZX7SBZMtjzc1Y2L7oWLBi_Jq0Q==&ch=2XtcYr2qa7UJgaYwrZCZY7Fn-AA-p4fpTqa3ZxL1bVdr1autHqGOlQ==> . CHORI Summer Internship Program Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI), the research branch of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland, isseeking applications from qualified - motivated college students still in their undergraduate program, to participate in our 2017 CHORI Summer Student Research Program for Under Represented Undergraduate Students. The CHORI Summer Research Program is designed to provide an unsurpassed opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the world of basic and/or clinical research for three months during the summer. The program pairs students with one or two CHORI principal investigators who serve as mentors, guiding the students through the design and testing of their own hypotheses and methodology development. At the end of the summer, students present their research to their peers just as any professional researcher would do.
