UCSF School of Pharmacy's post-baccalaureate program is designed for individuals who have completed the required undergraduate coursework, but feel they need a stronger academic foundation in order to make themselves more competitive as applicants to pharmacy school. We are especially interested in individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, underserved communities and/or from groups traditionally underrepresented in the profession. The School of Pharmacy Post-Baccalaureate Program is modeled after the long-running, successful post-baccalaureate programs implemented by the UCSF Schools of Medicine and Dentistry. These respective programs are built on a foundation of advanced science coursework, collaborative study and personalized support in preparing for the professional school application process. The School of Pharmacy Post-Baccalaureate Program aims to make individuals more competitive through a similarly comprehensive and structured program. Through a combination of upper-division academic coursework, personalized support in application preparation, and constructive seminars, individuals will be able to strengthen their applications to pharmacy school. The program begins in August 2017 and is 10 months in duration, preparing individuals to apply for the 2018 application cycle. Application to the program are due no later than 11:59 PM on Monday, April 3, 2017. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. In consideration of this opportunity, if you are aware of students who may be interested, please feel free to share the message above and the attached flyer. Health Coach Volunteer Opportunity in San Francisco Community Clinic Silver Avenue Family Health Center is looking to expand its Health Coach volunteer program! This position is an opportunity to have direct patient interaction with underserved populations and to learn about preventative medicine, clinical population management, and quality improvement. Please carefully read the attached posting and see information packet for more details. If interested, email your resumé to Nancy Wen at [email protected] by March 31st 2016, Friday. This year, we are recruiting on a rolling basis. Therefore, we highly encourage you to apply early! Brief timeline of the selection process (subject to change): March: Interested individuals to email Nancy Wen March/April: Clinic tour + Interview with Health Coach Coordinators April/May: Final Interview with Medical Director Mid-June: Orientation and training begins UCSF Staff Research Associate Position The Wilson lab is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and organized junior researcher to assist in our aims in multiple sclerosis research. We are involved in a very exciting study that seeks to understand the beginnings of multiple sclerosis by studying the immune system cells in the peripheral blood and cerebrospinal fluid of newly diagnosed MS patients. We use an in-house flow cytometer/cell sorter and next generation sequencer to better understand which cell types may be important to disease activity. The Staff Research Associate I/II (SRA I/II) will assist the lab with processing of human peripheral blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples for flow cytometry and cell sorting. The sorted subsets will be used for next generation sequencing and transcriptomics, so some molecular biology work may be expected as well. Patient visit schedules are constantly changing so some scheduling flexibility and a positive attitude are important. In return, you will receive the opportunity to work with cutting edge technology and a fascinating patient population. We are a passionate, energetic group and hope to find someone who shares our commitment to the exciting work we are doing. Research Assistant at UCSF/SFVAHSC Feeley Lab UCSF/SFVAHC's Feeley lab is looking for a talented, hard-working, self-motivated volunteer research assistants in this summer to help with muscle stem cell research. The UCSF/SFVAHSC Feeley lab is an orthopedic translational research laboratory, located at the UCSF Mission Bay campus, along the shores of San Francisco Bay, just south of AT&T Park. The campus is within walking distance of a Caltrain station, as well as having free shuttles to Bart stations, downtown SF and other UCSF campuses. Our group focuses on translational research on regulation of skeletal muscle stem cell differentiation. Specifically, we are interested in understanding how muscle injury patterns affect the stem cell populations within the muscle (satellite cells, FAP cells) in an effort to determine treatment strategies that would improve muscle function after orthopedic injuries. Successful candidates will have opportunities to conduct in vitro and in vivo stem cell experiments under supervision. Those who are interested in orthopedic surgery may also have opportunities for clinic exposure at the USCF Orthopedic Institute. A full-time research associate position may also become available after the summer.
