The Getty creates quarterly reports on web activity, based not on 'hits'
or some other measure of server activity but on visits and visitors. 
"Visitors" or users are unique IP addresses that are counted only once
each quarter regardless of the number of times that each IP address
visits the site.  "Visits" ignore the unique IP requirement and are thus
most comparable to the notion of counting the number of people visiting
the museum or library.  We recognize that we are not measuring the value
of the web site but merely counting (with the exception of those relying
on AOL for internet service) very much like similar measurements of
exhibition attendance.
