It's not about validity and merit, but about transparency. When someone is contributing to MeeGo and you know the company affiliation, it's easier to understand their point of view and whether or not they might have a vested interest in the discussion as part of their job. A company email address is simply a quick and easy way to learn a little more about the people contributing to MeeGo. It also provides an inherent "disclosure" of sorts about any potential conflict of interest. You know when I talk about Intel that I work here, so anything I say about Intel might be a little biased, and you can evaluate my response taking that into account.
