This is something I have thought about for a long time - I'm the person
who established the rule at Intel that any Intel employee has to be
identifiable as such when posting to mailing lists related to their
work.

To me it's a matter of accountability and honestity to do so.

Stop right here.

I AM NOT IMPLYING ANYONE NOT DOING SO ISN'T ACCOUNTABLE OR HONEST.

Ok?

I just feel (and had this confirmed by many open source contributors
that I've talked to in the past) that in conversations like this it is a
good practice to make sure people understand that you are being paid for
this work and by whom you are being paid. Is it necessary? No. Is it in
general a good idea? I sure think so.

Arjan (and I, and many others at Intel) frequently post to mailing lists
from other accounts. And we tend to have a little signature at the end
of our emails (in my case those tend to be from [email protected],
for Arjan it would be [email protected]) or some other way that makes
sure people are aware that we work at Intel.

Something to think about. I would still require at least all Intel
people to have an appropriate signature.
