Title: RE: Clutch problem........???

Wojee,

Didn't get a chance to measure the carriers last night as there were some "domestic issues" that needed resolution. (ie. The minister for the interior wanted a completion date for the orange peril in carport).

Thinking about the symptoms that your car has would indicate that it is most likely not the carrier as it would not have worked from the beginning.  It is possible to the put the bearing on the wrong way  as it is just a press fit.  Most unlikely though given that it is fairly obvious which way it goes on.

If you aren't losing fluid, then it is a bit more difficult.  I am assuming that the lines were bled properly.  It could be something (eg. dirt) in the clutch line preventing fluid flow or the master/slave cylinders themselves. I had this happen on a previous datto where replacing the slave cylinder caused some junk to get in the line and having to pump to enough travel.  Just a thought, make sure the fulcrum lever is attached correctly with the spring at the back and actuating properly.  The fulcrum lever will stay attached but its travcel path can deflect, not giving full extension.

I will get the measurements for you anyway, if nothing more than future reference.

Regards
Michael Foreshew

    Dude,
What did you source the carrier from??
Could you give me meeasurements of original and new carrier so i can check mine???
I have a z18 / fj20 box.. with the standard slave cylinder and a master cylinder with a plastic reservoir on top of it (not sure of size 5/8?????)
A new bearing was put on the original carrier.... stupid question but u can't put it the wrong way on??? I haven't seen mine for that long i can't remember.

I have fitted new seals in BOTH master and slave cylinders worked beautiful for a week....
then i had loss of pedal when, i think, i dropped the pedal quick and i would need to pump it once or twice and it would come back..... I thought this might be the return spring in the master cylinder getting stuck........

As far as I know I am not getting fluid leak........ I check AGAIN but i sure I don't......

      Wojee,

I have had similar problems the last couple of weeks and found it to be a thrust bearing carrier was too long. I had fitted a higher profile clutch/pressure plate and the carrier was too long and not allowing the clutch to disengage. I fitted a smaller thrust carrier and all is fine. Just the f*&$@g spiggot bearing to go now.

      Cheers

      Hi all,

I have a small clutch problem.
      Specifications are as follows:
      Datsun 1600
      FJ20 Turbo
      RPM heavy duty clutch kit

The clutch doesn't disengage properly and gear crunching is the result
      especially reverse.
Can I ask as to what size / combination slave and master cylinders you
folks, with similar cars / engines, are using??

And any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

      Thank you

      Wojee.
