Zac,

Mmmm, don't think so as the bushes only go in one way, that's if they're
fitted correctly. There was a post on the that other list recently about
uni joint phasing that engineers and like should check a bit more often
as if the uni joint phasing is not what it should be it leads to
premature joint failure. Note, it doesn't apply to CV joints for some
reason so Pete L you're OK. Driveshaft U-joint phasing is that the axis
of transmission output shaft and the differential input shaft axis are in
parallel planes (but not necessarily in same axis) . If the tailshaft
angles down by 5 degrees then the diff input should angle upward by 5
degrees so if you have to space a gearbox down for some reason as we do,
then i just wonder how many out of phase tailshafts we're running round
with. The same applies to a differential drive shaft like most R160/R180
series diffs. If you change the location of the diff in the upward plane,
say by re-drilling the x bar or leave the shims out or put them in the
wrong place (don't laugh i've seen it done) then the unis will be out of
phase.

This is what i'm concerned about with the x bar that Wayne has asked for
help about. I'm not an engineer so I'm only going on what i've been told
and read about this stuff. Another concern with a x bar not correctly
located is there must be an unhealthy strain on the xmember insulators
as well, probably not serious but a question mark none the less.

regards
terry
