Terry
You might be surprised!!  Now that i have the bias sorted out the stopping power continues to surprise me. It is awesome!! But I guess brakes can only stop as good as your tyres will let them.. I reckon that for the first couple of stops there wouldn't be a lot in it, but after that the 4 spots start to earn their keep. My setup now is
Front    4 spot calipers(import pathfinder) on bloody large vented (Mazda) discs
Rear     VH calipers(fronts)  on (nearly as large) vented VH discs.
I am using Bendix Metal Kings front and rear
Brake fade due to heat is NOT an issue. I reckon it would stop the same all day.
The only disadvantages of this system is lack of a cable handbrake and the greater unsprung weight. I can feel the weight there sometimes when going over corrugations.
The major advantage is when i am towing the boat as once again fade is NOT an issue.
Having used this setup for a while i quite frankly wouldn't recommend for anything other than an out and out racer as I believe it is overkill and the added unsprung weight creates too many other handling problems and loads on shock absorbers and stuff.
But I like the idea of the contest  hehe
So when are u coming up?
cheers
Mick
PS  What are these Paged pads?
PPS  Stop picking on poor old Nigel!!

Mick,
It had to be the 4 spots stuffing up your bias as everything else was identical to mine except I have the 200B Girlocks with Paged pads. This set-up is awesome even in the wet - and it's been as wet as it gets around here lately and I just can't believe how good the brakes are.

I had a Nigel in a Clubsport 185i with his ABS system try to out brake me into a couple of roundies the other day in the wet and he nearly lost it even though he had the faster entry lane, didn't help him much. He didn't learn from the first attempt either as he tried to run me to the next roundy and tried to do it all again - same result - and I could have gone in a lot deeper but one has to be a bit sensible on the street.

Wardy has the exact same set-up as us but still has drums and that works as well as drums are going to.

We'll have to compare a few 160-0 stops next time I'm up on the Coast.

cya
Terry

Pete
One of the reasons I use the commonwhore discs and calipers is that I could never get the bias right with the r31 rears. I just assumed it was because i used the 4 spots on the front.  What are u running on the front? Terry seems to be happy with the bias on his.... The best feature of the r31 rears is the cable operated handbrake which means you can keep it legal  (not like mine)
BTW I was running a 180B master cyl and booster.
Also I have found that having the Tilton bias balance bar is quite interesting. When changing from a dirt circuit to a bitumen circuit I am winding the adjustor knob about 4 to 5 turns which is quite a bit  so i guess if u are experiencing different road surfaces there will be times when the bias is right and other times when it will be wrong (maybe its never right?). I am extremely happy with my brakes now and I reckon the attraction for the rear of 4WD's is a thing of the past  hehe
just some thoughts
cheers
Mick
