YES YES YES for the MILLIONTH time the timing is CORRECT!!!
We have found what I am now 99% sure is the problem:
Upon cranking the motor, voltage throughout the car drops to 7-8 volts. Thus
the motor cannot turn fast enough. With fuel (you can smell it out the
exhaust) and spark there is no reason why it won't fire - except for the
voltage.
I'm angry I didn't notice sooner. It's quite obvious the engine isn't
turning fast enough - but because we were jumper leading the car every time
I never considered that it would be losing voltage.
We're unsure of what is sapping the voltage though. We tried switching
starter motors to an L one but couldn't even get that one to turn (might be
buggered).
Any ideas as to what might sap voltage like that? Could it occur if the
starter is wired incorrectly?
