The bastard fired
The timing was correct all along, except for the minor hitch of referencing
the wrong marker on the timing cover! So everything was out by about 70-80
degrees which of course didn't help.
With the correct TDC marker in place the thing fired (and boy was it loud
with only 12" of exhaust!)
