Anthony,
He's confusing the 510 with the Bluebird and Stanza and perhaps 200B which
have such a bracket that usually broke anyway (I went through a few of these
on my Stanzas until I fitted H&M headers.) A 1600 and 180B only have the one
bracket before the rear xmember and two hangers for the rubber hangers to
locate the rear muffler.

The only time you'll get vibrations on a 1600 exhaust is if it's sitting too
close to the gearbox mount as the 5 speeds that we use sit around 25mm lower
than stock, and those that have L20B engines as well nearly have to use the
HM21C headers to clear.

regards
Terry

Subject: 1600 stock-mod exhaust Q

Mornin list,

I was at a local parts place on the weekend and the guy told me that the
1600's came out with a bracket around the (stock) exhaust pipe that was
connected to the gearbox housing (or somewhere there) to stop vibrations
etc ... Is this guy pullin my leg or is there truth in what he says?

Anyway I have extractors on my twin SU L18 and the extractors vibrate
against either the gearbox housing or the mounting point for the rack
and pinion as its within 5mm of both, this only happens at certain rpms
but is exaccerbated when turning right (weight of engine moving left).
Has anyone had this problem before and fixed it? Or does anyone know
what sort of braket+clamp arrangement I could make up to secure the
extractors to gearbox bellhousing ?

Thanks,
Anthony
