I have no direct experience in fitting FJ's, CA's or SR's to a 1600 but I
have read many stories from those who have, and I have looked at many
installations.

My understanding from what I have read and observed is that the FJ is the
hardest to install in the engine bay, due to its top heavy equipment and
clearance requirements. The SR has some gearbox fitting problems in a manual
tunnel and is tight in an auto tunnel, the CA is probably the easiest to fit
into the space available.

Each has cross member/sump/steering considerations to work around.

Given each is not just a basic bolt on to fabricated mounts, I would have to
go for the most modern option, the SR. Having said that, I like the clean
look of the CA design in the 1600 engine bay and I love the cruder FJ motor
with its obvious DOHC looks. I depends on what you want to achieve in the
swap; basic grunt, aesthetics or serviceability.
