I think you have mis-read my message.
Yes, there was a L18SSS engine but only for a short time in Aus and it was
usually the 120 bhp gross (~100 hp sae), A87 mid port head 1.3/8", high top
pistons, twin side drafts, SSS header (4-2-1). It disappeared here in early
'75 when ADR27A regs kicked in as it failed badly. L18 engines with V912
head (closed chamber) were imports into Aus, although some 912 heads were
brought in as genuine spare parts and fitted under warranty claims on the
early L18 SSS.
An open chamber A87 or V912 head was produced for EFI and the North American
models only, definitely not an Aus part and I'm nearly sure not used in
Japan either.

i have seen a V912 (1.5" inlet) at the wreckers up here in brisbane(maybe
imported?)
but it had open combustion chambers
