Hi guys,
I wouldn't get to excited about the Jaycar A/F
meter (or any others for that matter) unless you look at investing $200+ on a
top quality 'Wide Band' O2 sensor. The meters them selves are quite good
(I have one myself)...BUT they are very limited in the A/F ratio they can
indicate due to the limits of most O2 sensors.
Most common O2 sensors (all nissan included) only
give an ouput voltage between 0 and 1volt, where 0 = 14:1 a/f and 1v = 15:1 a/f
(approx)
This means that the meter can only show A/F ratio's
between 14 and 15:1.....This is pretty nigh on useless for other than making
sure 'cruise' mixtures (stoich 14.7) are right.
If under load and you get as lean as a 14:1 A/F,
any highly strung motor will be less a piston anyway.
Cam (the guy who bought the kit and found out
it's limitations later :(( )

Mark,
The air/fuel ratio meter from Jaycar works really
well. I made one about three years ago for a GSR lancer turbo. It is very
simple to build (only took around 45mins) and have very little experience with
electronics. I used mine in conjunction with an injector duty cycle meter.
Calibration is pretty straight forward on a
standard engine, but if the engine is modified in any way, then it really need
to be done while hooked up to some type of emmissions machine, like most
mechanics use.
They are a great tool to keep an eye on what's
happening under the bonnet. I noticed that once I wound the boost up the duty
cycle of the injectors would peak out and at the same time the air mixtures
would start to go lean. This only started to happen though when I pushed the
car to 16psi (a 60% increase). This can be very handy when running in
different air temps - if the engine is at the limit.
Good luck.
Mark A.

Mark, Last time i had mine on the dyno it made 149kw@wheels@16psi. This was with my
new throttle body, fuel rail, Malpassi rising reg., and ca18det injectors.
The tune is still on - 35% total mixture trim - so there is still shiteloads
of fuel left. Therefore ca18 or fj20 injectors will be fine! If your going
to adelaide anyways why not get it dynoed again then?? Plus its gunna cost
your at least 100 bucks to make your air/fuel ratio, then theres the fact
that you dont know what your doing. thats why i always just take mine and
get it re-dynoed by professionals - then i know everything is 100%!!
Yeah i read about your head bolts - no good! It was giving me the shits
and i heard a hell of a lot of bad stuff about copper head gaskets from a
variety of different people. I ended up putting a stocky gasket back in, its
been going now sweet as for a week and with the o-rings in the head locking
everything in it should be well and truly strong enough - plus it doesnt
leak!! Steve.

hi,
there is a air/fuel ratio meter available in a kit form , from
jaycar electronics and also dick smiths (i think). the design comes from
"silicon chip magazine" its a electronic hobbyist magazine, i reckon
that i still have some data some where for the
kit. it costs about 60-70 dollars
for the kit, but has to be calibrated , i think that there is some
calibration that can be done , depending on the characteristics of
the o2 sensor. with out using a proper a/f meter. but it would pay to get it properly calibrated at a
garage etc... i think that this would help out
alot using this meter , i will definately be getting one , ( i should be
going to adelaide next week, so i`ll get a kit then) i am using mercedes injectors( green) , and going by what
the guy said at rpm in adelaide , they are runningat a high (?) rate and might pay to go to higher flow. i am getting 114kw at wheels, with a slipping clutch
(new clutch should be here soon). he said if i wind the boost upand bigger
injectors, i should be seeing about 150 kw at wheels. what sort of injectors would u use to get this 150
kw? i am tidying up the engine bay at the
moment , so it would be about a week or so till its finished. did you read my messages about the head bolt thread
stripped? thats roughly where the water was leaking,, but it titened down
alright in the first place? but what i cant figure iis that yours was
leaking in the same place....
seeya later, mark

only.. Mark, Hard question to answer mate as
you will really need some sortof an airfuel ratio to get your mixtures
100%. As for how they work yeah i should be able to answer anything you
need to know. When i upgraded my standard z18 injectors to ca18det ones
i had to cut the MIX trim to -35% just to get it to idle and run. Its a
pretty basicly setup computer thou and i have a manual if you wanna know
anything. What kindof injectors you gunna use?? Steve.

-----hi, curious to know, does any body out
there know how to tune up the microtech digi one fuel only computer?
i was thinking of putting bigger injectors in it later on, and i
dont really wanna drag it another 500 km (round trip, to adelaide)
to get it done... thanks, mark
