1) Ask any engine builder
2) Check all the factory L series engines, the L18 is the worst with -0.55mm deck height, nowhere near -1.95mm!
3) Think of the shape of the combustion chamber, it's far from ideal and is not as detonation resistant as other shapes (as I believe you've already discovered)

hi, not really a good combo my arse,!! i`ve pulled /fixed  heaps of engines , and even  from the factory, some  engines have pistons that are below deck height. ( slant chrysler engines for a start) if its not a good combo, how come  i`m getting 160 hp/120 kw at rear wheels?
so what if the cylinder becomes part of chamber?

Mark,

That's not really a very good combo, because it has a deck height of -1.95mm which means the cylinder walls are becoming part of the combustion chamber which is something they aren't designed to do.

hi.

1 should do
2 should do
3 not sure , the z24 have different shaped ports , hence manifold/s is different.
4  you will have to use L20B conrods and z  20 pistons
the l and z blocks are exact same  height, and putting a z2.4 crank in my l20b i had to use l20b rods and z 20 pistons.

Subject: Z series questions

was just wondering a few things about Z series motors

#1 will the Z24 crank go in the Z20 block?hi

#2 will the Z18ET manifolds bolt up to the Z20 head?

#3 out of the Z18, z20 and z24 heads, is there any particular one that flows better?

#4 assuming the z24 crank fits, what pistons and rods would I use? Z20 rods and pistons?  not really worried about final compression ratio cause I will be getting forgies made up so I'll get them made with a little less compression if need be, just wondering which pistons I should get them to copy

Thanks guys n girls

Dave
