I was in your boat a few years ago, not much money but i really wanted to
see what the story was with these rotories so i just kept an eye on the
Quokka (trading post) and when i saw some one advertising a smokey rotory i
gave them a call. I ended up paying him $60 for a complete but smokey
rotary. Interestingly i pulled it apart, had a good look at it and then
sold the rotors, the only usable part in the whole motor, for $50 to a guy
who rallies them. He was going to fit 3mm apex seals so the fact that it
had a bit of play in it with the 2mm seals wasnt a problem.

Keep you eye out and then dig in and have a go. THey are easy to pull
apart, if you need some help dont be afraid to email me.
