Lochie,

Any air leak will cause high idle but it would have to be obvious to make it
idle at 1500-1800 rpm. Seeing as how your's is idling at 2500rpm I took a
punt on the linkages. You've tested the booster mani vac inlet the correct
way. When the booster inlet was open it should have made a fair bit of noise
and possibly increased the idle a tad more.

Could it be something to do with my brake booster?  I removed the carbies to
drill a hole in the manifold for the vacuum hose to connect to the booster.
Could this be anything to do with the problem, ie if the booster is not
working properly would it make it rev higher.  Although, I did remove the
vacuum hose on the weekend and blocked the hole with my finger and this
didn't do anything.
