The
CA18 is a brilliant little street engine in a 1600, I'd love to have the time to
build a wagon for Sunday drives with a CA but it isn't in the same league as the
FJ20 out of the box. Most stock FJ/1600's when sorted will run 14's and I've
seen the odd one run 13's on street tires which is pretty good for a 1600 and
will run speeds approaching 240Kph. What is difficult with the power
characteristics of the FJ is to translate significant power increases into
better ET's, a FJ/1600 that runs 12's has had some serious money thrown at it.
It's in this area if that's what your into the SR seems to do a better job, i.e.
bang for bucks.
FJ20ET
S12 - 190hp, 224Nm; DR30 - 205hp, 225Nm; DR30(IC) - 215Hp,
225Nm
CA18DET S12 - 144hp, 148Nm; S13(IC) 174hp, 167Nm
I have
seen dyno sheets for FJ20ET's putting out in excess of 400Nm with something
around 300rwhp so with only 216hp I would think ~280Nm is closer to the
mark. I can't remember how much torque Anthony's FJ puts out but it would
be a good indication of what the hp to Nm ratio is.

Terry
according to the specs on it i have, might be
wrong

Kits
FJ/CA/SR kits are available from SSS
Automotive and Maddat. The SSS FJ kit is fine for a
manual body, mine has been used/copied quite a few times and we've
never had a problem. The rear trannie mount is where there are subtle
differences in the kits. If I was doing a turbo conversion in 2002
instead if 1993, I'd be looking at the SR or if I was on a budget
the CA. The CA is the most under rated turbo conversion and seen as a
bit woosy for a 1600 but they are strong &
reliable.

What kits are available for fitting an
FJ20 det into a 1600 and what experiences have people had with
them?
and for that matter should i want to
stick an FJ20det into my 1600 which engine is best to get - i
know there are couple different engines you can get from different
cars
but if i wanted to do some work on a
fj20det which is the best engine to get and what are the
differences
Thanx
Leighton
