having some probs gettin my L18 to run right just put SU's on:
tried tuning, re-tuning, advancing igniton timing, retarding it, changing point gap,
re-tuning it, reckon its a manifold leak or maybe clutch
like from idle when i rev it hard it'll almost splutter and die b4 it picks up and
revs, and when im driving it kinda sounds like a beetle, and when i get the revs up
and dump the clutch the engine bogs and almost stalls
any ideas?
Cheers
james

Anthony,
Wandering shouldn't be a problem with 185's on 6" rims. On a 1600
wandering usually means that something in the steering componentry is worn
and most of the time it's the radius rod bushes or idler arm bush. If the
frontend hasn't had a good check up by an expert who knows what to look for or
cares about you're 30 yo pride & joy it's time to get it
done.
regards
Terry
Thanks Terry
At the moment they have 185/60s on them, it seems
that the car doesn't handle as well as it did with 205s on Hotwire wheels. The
car seems to wander over the road and doesn't feel as confident. Could that be
because the tires are to skinny, or would it be that I need a wheel alingment
(I only just had one with the old wheels).
Thanks,
Anthony

Subject: RE: Tyres for the
superlites
Anthony,
For 50 series on a 14" rim you would need to run 205 or even 215 to
get your loaded radius anywhere near correct, but you then have clearance
problems. With 14" 195/60 are sweet, there's good selection of tyres and
priced right too. Look at Continental Sport Contacts (grooved slicks) or
Firestone Hawks for the pick of them. You can probably get Yokis or Pirellis
too, some ppl like them but I don't on a 1600 as they breakaway without a
lot of warning which is OK on a track where there's nothing much to hit but
on the street it's a bit different.

Terry
Hi Guys
I need a new set of tyres, but was wondering
what people think is the best size. The wheels I have are 14x6 superlites.
I was thinking 185x50 for the front and 195x50 for the rear.
do I need to worry about the width of the
tyre in relation to the rim width?
Thanks,
Anthony. --membersozdat-------------------------------------------------------
