Chris,

74C ~165F are an option (cooler) and quite common in air-conditioned Dattos
in warm/hot climates. But just like any thermostat they gradually fail,
usually opening early or not closing all the way which the symptoms of are
much like you've got. The warm up time no matter what operating temperature
a thermostat will be just the same if it's working properly.

On late model 1600 with a cooling system in good shape, a 74C thermostat
will run on the bottom of the normal range (~1/4" to the left of T). An 82C
will run on or just under the line to the left of the "E" and the optional
hotter 88C will run between the M P. The 82C is the stock thermostat which a
good working order cooling system will handle and if you drive down my way,
your heater will keep you nice and warm.

regards
Terry

thanks alot terry,

Strange that mine had a 160 deg F thermostat in it? Has always run fine
untill recently when it started taking longer to heat up and and ran at a
cooler temperature.I think the thermostat wasn't sealing completly.
But mabey my temp gauge is stuffed.

Ive swapped it over now. thanks foir the help

Chris King.
