Adam it I would say your trying to weld cast iron- steel if you grind it does it spark funny as in a dull red?? It is a pain to weld don't know if you can get special mig wire for it. i do know you can oxy-braze it but need special wire. When welding does it melt into it at all or just pool up?? I do quite a bit of welding at work mainly mild steel and a bit of gal its a pain to weld too you need a different gas for galvanized.
