Spot on Richard, I have a stock L16 (mild cam, electronic dizzy) in my daily driver with twin SU's and the inlet ports are much smaller than the manifold. The original stock carby was leaking badly and all I had sitting around the garage were these oversized SU's that I had rebuilt myself. The car is quite driveable but bogs down when launching, unless you keep the revs up much more than you should be. Hence the lower air velocity doesnt atomize the fuel efficiently when it has to pass through the stepped down reduction of the port diameter. My mechanic mate reckons there is not enough metal wall thickness in the head to port match to the manifold safely. Why would you anyway, unless you wanted to keep the whole car original. Just go for a big port SSS L18 or a L20B motor or go the turbo way (yeah!).
On my L16, the motor works fine above 3500-4000.
Fuel consumption is only slightly more than it should be with a massive granny-beating 69 Hp at the rear wheel ;-P

I suppose it is true that it wont work "properly".

It will bolt on and will run (with properly set up carbs), but the smaller 1600 ports should be enlarged to match the mani for the twin mani to operate at full potential with smooth flow.

List,
Is it true that a twin side draught mani for a l20b won't fit/work properly on an l16????

Thanks
