I think I have some brass floats from 180B 'SU's' somewhere in the garage or shed, but won't get the chance to look 'til the weekend.

As to the cracking....almost certainly fatigue.

Anyone know if the Zed's carbies run the same floats as the 180B type. I'm
sure I can get them in Canberra - I bought some for another lister around 3
months ago for Zed Hitachi's (not at Nissan, NLA in Aus, 3mths from Japan,
$$ up front). What model have you got on yours and I'll make a call or two
for you. On another note, I've soldered floats up before and never had any
more trouble with them - are you feeling lucky. Do you have the heat shield
fitted?

regards
Terry

Thanks Eddie, Hmmm, I think your theory certainly explains the cracks in the
brittle brass floats. In regards to getting new ones though, I've allready
called Nissan and they reckon there are none in Australia. Shit!

Thomas,
I believe the cracks are caused by the constant heat related presssure
changes inside the float. This sort of inflates and deflates it like a
balloon (well not visibly but you get the idea) which eventually causes
stress fractures. I had exactly the same problem on my 710 SSS. I ordered
new floats from Nissan which turned out to be plastic rather than brass so
the problem should never happen again.
