Richard,

The early model Hitachi's aren't too bad but the later type are pretty
ordinary and I don't like them all that much either. A weber may be a bit
tricky to get right, but once done it will run for years with only a
mandatory checkups once and a while.

It's only natural that the under bonnet temps are on the increase but heat
in itself will not hurt anything unless it's excessive - i.e. signs of
vapour locking etc. Lift the bonnet of the average turbo and the heat blast
in the face really is noticeable, but that's pretty normal. Cold air intake
and heat shielding between head and carbies is worth the effort and does
make a difference. I've not used tape on my headers on the 1600 for years
but some folks swear to its benefits. We used it in the race car but with
the turbo wound up it was hard to tell if it made much difference - looked
good though, oh and it cost plenty and that was 10 years ago.

regards
Terry

I think the Z ones are compatable with SU (original) carbies, where as the
180B type are harder to source parts I may be wrong though. Are there more
than one type that bolt onto a L seires 4 cyclinder? Everyone I speak to
tells me to get rid of them and they arent worth spending a cent on!

Is there any other way to stop the heat in the engine bay, I can notice a
huge differance on hotter days. Whats that exhaust tape (wrap or whatever
they call it) like?

Richard
