Steve, Yes indeed it must be vented or it will explode and I kid you not, either a small hole in the cap or a tube arrangement like an OEM fitted overflow bottle on a late model vehicle will do the trick. You also need to fit the return system type radiator cap, cp543/90 or /13 for a 1600 radiator, cp560/90 for a Pulsar N13 radiator seeing as how they are topical this evening. The standard cp508/13 cap will not work without modification and it's simpler to buy a new one.
