Rob,

Not a good idea, for the exact reason that you posted. This problem happens
occasionally and the best method is to rock the car in 2nd gear or do as
Alan did - they usually will crack apart pretty easily.

Also, it doesn't seem to do any long term damage the clutch plate.

Same here, repeated condensation and drying glued it to the flywheel.
Maybe propping the clutch open with a length of wood would be advisable if
leaving the car stationary for a long time. I don't know how the diaphragm
(pressure plate) would go, it may lose some spring tension?
