I once crushed the exhaust pipe just below the engine in the '76 300D by running over a large chunk of ice in a parking lot. I stopped and checked for leaking oil after the loud clank, but didn't notice theexhuast pipe till the next oil change. I always did worry about that low pan - but stopped thinking about it after many un-eventful miles.
