Marshall and all.....
Correction - W116 300SD sold in three MY's ... 1978/1979/1980 - all
w/617.950 engines.... Total of about 25,000 were brought into US.
It was a US only configuration. I've heard of some Germans who
bought them here and had them shipped back to Germany. That info is
anecdotal, however
I can vouch for the 100 mph (plus) top speed at about 4600RPM's
across Montana (no speed limit days). In my '80, the IP was
tweaked.......
The Euro headlight conversion was popular with many owners.
Take care,
Chuck

Also, in 1980 was the 300SD a turbo? I thought the turbodiesel
started in
1981 ...
All "S" series diesel (1st one in the US was a '79 model year car sold
in late '78 as I recall) were turbos. As to the flush headlights, must
have just been Euro headlights, the US versions has a pair of small
round sealed beams on each side. Top speed was rated at 103 mph (but
various people have tweaked them a bit higher).
