The turbos are interchangable from the older engines to the newer ones. As far as I can tell, they are identical.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, the w116 300SDs used the earlier AirResearch turbo units. I believe AirResearch was later purchased by Garrett, but don't know that for fact.
