My 1980 300SD (MY '80, Build date 10/79) has a Garrett Turbo
(original equip) still running strong.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, the w116 300SDs
used the earlier
AirResearch turbo units. I believe AirResearch was later purchased
by Garrett,
but don't know that for fact.
