Dave,

A quick way to increase the spacing slightly is to group the text and use
Transform, Scale to increase the size in the X axis only. This introduces a
small amount of distortion.

If you consistently use the same font and text size, I would suggest that
you edit the font to get the spacing you want. Save it under a new name and
you are in business.
