Chris, One of my clients buys standard 60 degree engraving tools. These are single flute, straight shank, carbide cutters. They engrave .005-.012 deep in aluminum, using all the RPM their older machines will deliver. Feedrates of 5-10 IPM. They use these cutters for 1/8-1/4 letters.
For larger letters, they use 1/16" ball mills or center drills. Again, they turn them as fast as they can (4000 RPM). Same feedrates.
