Hmm. If a known good DIMM won't work when inserted, and even gently jiggled a bit, your MB is probably dead meat. The DIMM slot isn't really a field-replaceable item. You may well have snapped a trace buried in some deep layer of the MB. If a careful view all around it with a magnifying glass doesn't reveal a solderable broken trace (a delicate operation in itself), and there's no broken-off piece of plastic to fish out of the inside of the slot, I'd say you're limited to 1GB from here on out. Sorry!
