Will do, thanks for all the helpfull info. I will report back once I am done
with it all.

I used good used ones from the spare junkyard engine I bought for my engine
build. I had mine done by a company in Fresno, CA through my friend who lives
out there and had all the contacts. I also sent off the pistons for cryo
treating prior to coating - some shop in So Cal did the work.
Yes, I used OEM rings. So far I have about 2500 miles, roughly half are very
hard driving and/or open track events. I paid about $15 per piston for the cryo
treating and I believe the piston top and skirt coatings were ~$60 for all 4.
You might as well do it if you can find a shop that does good work.
I decided not to go with forged pistons, mainly because this is not a full time
racecar(yet). Since forged pistons expand quite a bit from cold to hot piston
slap is quite common and expected and under daily driver conditions I didn't
think the engine would like that constant abuse.
I coated the stock pistons to help resist damage due to detonation. Forged
pistons are of course much stronger and can take a lot more abuse than stock
pistons, but once the engine is tuned properly it should not be an issue unless
your ignition timing gets out of wack or you get some crap gas, in which case
you should have a programmable ecu to compensate for the knock events by
retarding the timing and/or lowering the boost.
good luck,
Mike

did you use new pistons or good used ones?
i want to sand blast mine and then have them coated...good idea? (budget
issues)
who did yours?
how long ago did you do yours and what appx. power level are you at?
did you also stick with stock rings? are you still on this setup? how long
has it lasted with what kind of driving? (track, spirited, auto-x, etc.) sorry
for so many questions, i am about to pull the trigger. Block is being broken
down tonight and ill take it to a shop on monday, as soon as i know the
cylinder wall and crank conditions i will make my final decision.
thank you all
