On my street Miata, I have it on top of the steering column. It's not as
obvious (bad) but it's also not as obvious (good). I think the A-pillar
is another good possibility to put it in your peripheral vision.

I've heard of people installing buttons for the programming wire. Makes
sense if you want to change modes.
