Maybe I need to get the unit I have in the garage installed and use it. :)

I can see when the LEDs go from green to yellow to red, and when I start to hit reds I know it's almost time to shift but not quite. If I don't see yellow, I'm off cam. If I do ignore everything, it starts to flash at redline anyhow. It's actually really good to judge how a lap's going, if I don't get both red LEDs coming into turn 10 I know I didn't do well on 9 or I chickened out on braking. You wouldn't accept a speedometer that simply lit up a big red light if you went over 65 mph or an oil pressure gauge that only shows you have a minimum of 7 psi pressure, why would you accept that behavior in a tach? It's no coincidence that I have three cars in my garage with Revlights, or that I tracked down a stash of them so we could sell them through FM. There's a big difference between a shift idiot light and a sequential tach.
