:)  that sounds like some interesting homework!
I'll do it right after I replace the ball joints - the upper and lower joints on the left front are a little questionable.  Are you supposed to get a 1/4" of slop between the lower a-arm and the suspension upright?  :)
After I get it fixed I'll do a fuel economy run as well as 60-0 distance and time.  that's assuming there's enough room to get up to 60mph with a whopping 60hp at the crank.

fwiw, tires involved were 165/70/13 firestone and two no-name brands mixed; 185/60/14 Winterforce Snows @ 36psi on stock Miata daisy's; 205/50/15 Kumho SPT @34psi on Kosie 15x7.  I think I actually doubled the value of the car when I put the Kosei's on, and then doubled it again when I filled up the gas tank. :)

I'll report back....

Chuck, you have homework. We need to see some numbers (60-0mph) for both sets of tires.

Subject: Re: LPC How much MPG improvement is possible

I picked up an 89 CRX HF a few months ago.  It's pretty ratty, but can still manages 40-50mpg.
Interesting side note - it came with rock-hard 165/70/13 tires that were shot... so I put on 185/60/14 snows from my Miata and the fuel economy went from 50+ down to 40.  So then I tried 205/50/15 (also laying around from the miata project) and the average went up to 42mpg, repeatably.
I was just shocked how much of a difference the tire size/type can make.

I figure with a little maintenance and some good pizza-cutter tires I should be back up in the 50+mpg range.

I figure a 98 Metro would work just fine. I want something that is ODBII so I can do some datalogging with it. I can't find any nice Metros around here but I am looking...

I started with a diesel rabbit but it was just too smelly, noisy, slow and ugly for me. So I sold it and have a line on a '98 3cyl Metro.  I may chase down the "Metro XFI" components which are 2 ring pistons, special cam, and special gearing, and maybe computer (still learning).  There are web sites with people getting 70+ with these but I suspect they are in very flat areas.

What car did you decide on and what other types did u consider? Gas or diesel?

Start with a car that gets 50+ and start making improvements to it. Getting the base car will take a little time. They are getting hard to find...
