you have to subtract your labor.

a market is made when you have a buyer and a seller. you can check
kbb.com as it takes into account your geographic area.

that being said, some cars have provinance. this one does not.

When you put it as you did in that last sentence, that has me thinking
sub-$2000 territory--heck, I'd buy it for about half the total of all
mods applied (ie take the mods, junk the car). Even that might be too
nice

Oh, don't be nice!! This isn't my car, I want brutally honest.
:) I think on a good day 3000, on an average day maybe 2500... but I
wanted to make sure I am still thinking clearly. It's a 14 year old car
with dodgy history and a mismatched set of mods...

I was trying to be nice about it, but I agree with Dan,
(I can't complete with Bryan)

Its a hard sell with the so called upgrades. It could
sell for $3500, but you have to find the right buyer (i.e. sucker) and
that takes time.

if you can find someone who thinks the mods are
worth paying for and falls in love with the car (high skool kid - and
the "high" is an adjective referring to his state of sober, not part of
the noun) AND has some money, maybe 2850.

The mods are a detriment to everybody else (cept
maybe the roll bar). Leaks Oil? - thinks it's a british sports car!

open diff, coil overs, roll bar, etc.... all
detriments to anyone looking for a spec miata (which can be picked up
for far less than the above price).

In these parts, an oil leaking, hard life m1
miata (that's been bastardized in it's drivetrain), he'd be lucky to get
2000 for it.

people give cars like this away all the time,
hard to compete against that.

                        here's what i suggest,

he should park it in the driveway with a "for
sale" sign in the window. Let it sit there for 10 or 20 years, then pay
someone to drag it away.

Buddy has a car that he's modified in very
hodgepodge fashion.. can you guys give me a ballpark of what you think
it's worth? I need some honest opinions to beat him with because he
lives in the alternate reality where mods return 95% investment and not
out here with us where they maybe return 40% if the economy is good.. :)

96 Montego base model, open diffy 5 speed
Body 7/10.. Texas car but clear coat peeling on
trunk, mismatched left fender (montego but has rockgaurd while rest of
car does not), door dings, etc. Typcial wear for a car that age. Top
good.
90k on body, but motor and tranny were swaped
from something else
                        Rollbar (track legal)
                        FM frame rails
                        RB Header (but stock exhaust)
KYB 8 ways and GC coilovers
Fidanza FW and Spec clutch but bone stock
engine, no power mods
Leaks oil.. assume valve cover or CAS
Otherwise runs decent, no major mechanical
issues.
So, what is that worth on the open market right
now? I'm guessing sub 3500, but curious what you guys think.
                        Thanks!
